Our Commitment to Child Protection
At the YMCA, the safety and well-being of children and teens is our highest priority and the foundation of everything we do. We are committed to creating safe environments in all programs and facilities by following YMCA of the USA’s Child Abuse Prevention and Aquatic Safety Membership Qualification and the standards of Praesidium Accreditation.
Every YMCA staff member—regardless of role—is expected to contribute to the prevention of child abuse. This includes:
- Maintaining professional boundaries with youth and upholding our Code of Conduct.
- Completing required annual training through Praesidium Academy and other approved prevention programs.
- Following procedures that identify and reduce risk in high-risk program areas.
- Reporting concerns, boundary violations, or allegations immediately, in accordance with law and YMCA policy.
As part of our selection process, all candidates must successfully complete a comprehensive background screening, including:
- Criminal background checks
- Sex offender registry checks
- Screening for patterns of high-risk behaviors
