Hawaiʻi Federal Credit Union and Federal Home Loan Bank of Des Moines

Hawaiʻi State Federal Credit Union is supporting the reimagined Nuʻuanu YMCA with a $300,000 gift — beginning with an initial $50,000 donation. With a three-to-one match by the Federal Home Loan Bank of Des Moines Member Impact Fund, that gift grew to $200,000, and an additional commitment from HSFCU raised the total to $300,000. This gift will bring the Intergenerational Room to life — a space that will welcome keiki, teens, kūpuna, and families, and reflect HSFCU’s enduring mission of service.

Founded in 1936 by government employees, Hawaiʻi State Federal Credit Union held its earliest meetings at the YMCA’s Central Y, where the community first learned about the benefits of credit unions. Today, this partnership continues the shared legacy of people helping people and strengthening community.

David C. Ai Charitable Trust

We are honored to announce a transformational $3 million gift from the David C. Ai Charitable Trust to support reimaging of the Nuʻuanu YMCA and the naming of the Nu'uanu YMCA in honor of the Ai family and their legacy of service. This gift continues a legacy that began in 1918, when Chung Kun “C.K.” Ai helped establish the original Nuʻuanu YMCA as the world’s first racially integrated Y.
